Salik is Dubai’s innovative electronically controlled toll collecting system that commenced operations in July 2007. It was designed and introduced with the intention of reducing traffic gridlock along Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai’s main road which connects the city’s commerce districts. The Salik is a very beneficial system that allows free movement of vehicles through the tolling points at highway with allowed rapidity. The use of Salik enables the traffic to continue flowing through the tollgates as opposed to vehicles having to stop and pay a monetary toll as on tollgates that are more traditional. The fees are currently relatively low, when compared to other major cities such as London.

Salik System works successfully because the traffic has reduced, improve the flow of operations and reduce the crowded on the roads
