SALIK card

SALIK Card and RFID
One of the technology implemented by the RTA is used in order to archive its mission of the SALIK Card tag that is attached on the vehicles windshield in order to cross the SALIK gates in Dubai becoming the most used service by the drivers.

SALIK Card:
" SALIK" means open or clear, it is the newest  Dubai electronic toll collection system launched in July 2007, which emphasizes the system’s congestion management objectives as well as the choice of technology for the toll system.

SALIK utilizes the latest technology to achieve free flow operation with no impact in traffic flow, allowing vehicles to move freely, through using the advanced Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology ,which is tagged inside the SALIK Card. In this way each time you pass through a SALIK tolling point, AED 4 will be deducted from your prepaid SALIK account.

SALIK tag represents the latest generation technology in tolling, operates with no battery or moving parts, and it should last the life of your windshield. It works in all weather conditions and speeds, and provides highly accurate and reliable identification of your vehicle to the system.

 Note that :
Your SALIK tag must be affixed to your windshield to operate properly and cannot be removed from your vehicle windshield without damaging the tag.

How to install your SALIK Tag?
1.Read all instructions before installing your tag.
2.Install your tag on a proper location, removing any aftermarket tint between the tag and the glass before installation.
3.Install only one SALIK tag  in your vehicle
4.Remove air that may become trapped under the tag.

SALIK system is clear success, says official

The road toll system on Shaikh Zayed Road has helped improve traffic flow and it has been widely appreciated by motorists, said a senior official

"We are very proud to apply the toll system (Salik) successfully and those who have been betting that it will not work, have now agreed that Salik did make a difference," said Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

While the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority chief says that the Salik system has worked well, many motorists feel it has added to traffic congestion on roads. Motorists said that although traffic has reduced on the tolled Shaikh Zayed Road between Al Garhoud Bridge and the Mall of Emirates, they have been facing acute traffic jams on alternative routes. Some motorists felt that the road diversions are meant to force people to use Salik.
